Masters on the Mountain 7

Playing Martial Arts for The Fun of It
With Willem De Thouars & Friends

This two-tape series documents a weekend seminar in the Sierra Foothills of California with Uncle, his many students and "family" from all over the US. Uncle is backed by a chorus of martial players with over a quarter- century of experience each. Numerous instructors demonstrate their varying arts under Uncle's energetic principles: Everything from Tai Chi, stick fighting, self-defense and knife-work, to ground grappling can be found in this volume. These instructors encourage participants of all levels of ability:

Uncle Willem de Thouars "lead guitar" and master of primal movement teaches the energy of a primate with his devastating entrances to include leg trapping, monkey boxing and various Kung Fu styles.

Joyce De Thouars teaches women to fully use their power in Pa Kua entrance work.

Dr. Andre' KnustGraichen, chief instructor of Pentjak Silat USA demonstrates traditional footwork following a mandala pattern on the floor, for both empty hand and knife play.

Chuck Stahmann, senior instructor of Kun Tao Silat De Thouars, gets everyone to practically bang in friendly free fighting drills, which are devoid of the safety of theory--the heat of the moment makes these drills practical.

Joseph Bronson, Shaolin Sifu and Kun Tao brother, came from Oregon to emcee and inspire participants to do the old-time brutal exercises for strength and courage.

Professor Glenn Abracy shows circular methods of Philippino stick fighting and knife work and its connection to Uncle's Silat.

Steve Todd came from his school in the hinterlands to play Kun Tao and sticks as well as encouraging the players to find a Tai Chi way of ground grappling to conserve life force.

Bear Roberts brought his Ju Jitsu under Uncle's eclectic umbrella to demonstrate devastating entrances.

Frank Broadhead integrates Tai Chi and Indonesian forms on the ground in cross-legged positions for building energy to get to-and-from the ground with ease. His Malaysian form is short
